Laurel – Shells (Lockah Rejected Remix)

As part of his Most Thought Provoking Bootys 2014 collection, Aberdeen Truthsayer Lockah remixed an unlikely track that’s a more gentle departure from his usual in-your-face style.

Shells” is the co-creation of breakout singer/songwriter/producer Laurel and vet producer, Shadow Child. The original version began as an acoustic track, inspired by an angsty 17-year-old Laurel going through a breakup. Her mother suggested that she collaborate with Shadow Child and put her voice over his production; the end result was a haunting expression of lost love over classically inspired strings and piano.

A subtle touch of bass is present in the original, but once Lockah got his paws on the track, it became a whole new beast; still wild and heartfelt, but with a lighter, more upbeat tone. He manages to bring his own zany, synthed up style, but also maintains the ethereal quality of Laurel’s vocals. Both the original and Lockah’s “Rejected Remix” are quite captivating.
