Does This Guy Have All The Answers For Soundcloud?

Evan Simoni must really like using Soundcloud (and might even earn himself a job there) after taking the time out to really break down what’s going on with the innovative music discovery platform that of late has plenty of feathers ruffled.

He’s scripted a post on Medium fittingly dubbed ‘Redesigning Soundcloud’ that takes aim at the pro’s and con’s and really what should be done to at the least, make the thing easier to use and probably please more than a few long time users.

In it he tackles everything from the simplifying the search bar to really drawing the focus on what song is playing while surfing the site – everyone’s a bit sick of the grey player in the bottom right?

Another major issue he points out is the inability to easily share music internally and help build their community outside of the repost function. He also thinks a re-design would include individual icons for download, like, repost, comment, add-to-playlist and share would help immediately.

Another biggie is notification and messaging which as it stands is clunky and hard to make sense of. His version uses things that already work ie Facebooks drop-down and icon based system.

Overall a succint piece on how to make Soundcloud a better place aside from those pesky legal issues with labels but still… Even leaves us with a final message

We know SoundCloud is a chill space for artists and listeners alike. Let’s hope they start making some spiffy changes to the web and mobile apps. I would love to see more people I know using SoundCloud regularly.
