Beats behind bars: New parties play with Melbourne’s cityscape

In the over-priced and under-whelming landscape that too often makes up the Australian dance event roster – it’s always refreshing to see a party attempting to intercept the generic.

Come in Piknic Electronik – Melbourne’s newest summer party series. Formulated and percolated in Montréal and Barcelona, the house and techno fuelled events are poised permeate the city centre with a whole lotta bass.

Starting up this Sunday at the Old Melbourne Gaol at RMIT – a cheeky $20 will get you access to some primo international and local acts. Churning up the hotplates this weekend is Hamburg native and global techno mogul Oliver Schories, playing for the first time on Australian soil ahead of his pacific tour.

Keeping the momentum going, the way funky sounds of Jacob Malmo are to follow. Tom Evans will get up there to take it uptempo with dreamy sounds of Liam Waller and Matt Kovic rattlin’ ya jail cells through the rest of the day. Diversity is the key – with edgy yet accessible dance music curated for both the seasoned dance lover and the techno rookie alike.

Epic munters or anyone who feels the need to ‘shred’ for anything probably wont find home here. This one’s for the fun but refined party goer, with music at the centre and community at it’s heart.

So grab yourself a bevvo (craft beers and cocktails – yeah boi) – boogie down and get locked in for some summer grooves.

Piknic Electronic will be running throughout the summer – stay tuned to Stoney for updates on acts and other juicy juicy content.
