Swedish House Mafia Member Bails On Major Label, ‘Going Indie’

Swedish House Mafia member Steve Angello is on the cusp of sharing his own artist album but has pulled a 180 in dropping his major label, Columbia Records in favour of “going indie” for the release.

Pulling the ‘asta la vista, biatches’ card on Columbia, bosses are sure to be devo today considering the song-and-dance of Angello’s signing earlier this year. He does of course have to buy out of the contract but does show the potential costs and credibility of going down this route.

But why? It appears that Angello is peeved with a lack of support from the major label with his last release ‘Wasted Love’ in June. The low key banger (apparently thats a thing) featuring Dougy Mandagi of the Temper Trap has certainly been quiet on the scene. Not a bad single by any means – the record seems to have far undershot it’s potential, as has it’s video – which features deserts and manly men.

Needless to say, this was not a good release and followed the even more quiet debut of initial single ‘Payback’ ft. Dimitri Vegas and Wyman in April. With Angello’s first post-Swedish House Mafia album ‘Wild Youth’ already finished and sitting in the vaults unreleased – many are pegging the label evacuation on the fact that Columbia cant get their shit together with a release date.

It must be a bittersweet decision for the artist – who’s putting a lot of his Mafia dollars (apparently a smooth $US12 million) into buying back his own music whilst also establishing his own label project SIZE.

Fight the power, Angello!
