Kings Cross Nightclub Shuts Down

With many standing strong, it’s with sad news that one prominent night club has shut up shop for good in Kings Cross. Everyone’s favourite little pocket club, The Backroom is no longer in business.

Owner Raul Gonzalez opened up to Pulse Radio on the closure;

“Things haven’t been working for a while. Plain and simple, it is the lockout laws that have definitely affected our closing.”

Since changing names from Lady Lux to The Backroom a few years ago, the club has hosted a range of dance music stars from Rudimental to Brodinski and many other unofficial DJ sets.

However! Every cloud has a silver lining with the battle not entirely lost. Gonzalez also revealed in the statement to all punters who use to frequent the establishment;

“We’ll be announcing something new in the next couple of weeks and are expecting to open by mid November. Basically we’re opening something similar to The Backroom but outside of the Cross and with a different name.”

With Lock Out laws proving to push Sydney’s creative club culture outside of the somewhat pointless ‘zone’, it will be interesting to see how well areas including the inner west handle the added pressure of new clubs, made harder with a zoning threat occurring in Marrickville.

So ladies and gentlemen, take a bow, The Backroom has lost the battle with the lock out laws. Don’t forget to thank Barry on Twitter.
