Interviewing The Bang Gang DJs Is Predictably Amazing

With Gus Da Hoodrat and Doom of famed Australian posse the Bang Gang DJs heading off to the Bermuda Triangle to kick boots with Calvin Harris, Kendrick Lamar and Ellie Goulding for that big ass Bacardi party it seemed like no better time to scoop out some banter on what the guys have been up to in what turned out to be a bizarrely amusing chat!

Talking shop on everything from a return to the club circuit to some classic tracks as well as their place in the Australian dance music scene Gus and Doom really turned it up haha

SR: Gents! It’s been a while, what’s currently happening with Bang Gang? Will this be a return to the club circuit?

BG: Well – since we turned over the age of 40 we figured that straddling arm chairs and reading the real-estate section of the paper in front of a wood-fire was actually achievable without frowns of disappointment to the fledging fans, so we went with that scene. As far as a comeback to the circuit goes – fuck man, that guy from Chic – whats-his-name? – did it. So I’m pretty sure we can too.

SR: It seems like most days we get carried away posting nostalgic tracks from ‘back in the day’. What are some unforgettable electro tracks?

BG: “You’re a Ladies Woman…. Man.” The Suss Trouser Committee “My Pose was Better Last Week” Ill-Electroish “Pink Satin on a Leather Dashboard” Patterns on Display

SR: So you’re off to the Bermuda Triangle, any mysteries you’re looking to solve? What do you think is on the other side if you manage to go missing?

BG: Mystery – How are we still alive? The other side – Buck Rogers, Notorious BIG and a life supply of refined sugar.

SR: Something a bit more serious, do you think the 2005-2009 era of Australian music that you played a part in has culminated into what the current scene is?

BG: Are you suggesting the previous answers weren’t serious? It’s a pretty far cry from the dance-floors that we donated our bodily fluids to all them years ago. But that’s development honey. And if we didn’t think that we had contributed in some way (be it good, bad, ugly or downright fucking sexy) then we would still be out there looking for the answer. Things change – and if you aren’t always there to witness then it may seem foreign and strange to you. If you are willing to scratch the surface of the mirror past the layers of your burst pimple puss and toothbrush off-spray you’ll find a decent enough reflection though.

SR: With so much on offer what are you tipping for big things within the Australian dance scene?

BG: The fusion of the reggae and the gay scene. The comeback of the RESIDENT donkey jockey. The death of the dance-floor. The resurrection of the dance-floor. Psy-trance hipsters. More fun-loving, carefree, sun-drenched, vanilla-bean disco-house. Techno that sounds like trance (note: trance)

SR: Having been privy to many amazing dance floors and travels, what was one pinch myself moment/story?

BG: Playing in the Austrian Alps on top of an igloo at the top of a mountain with 360 degrees views of white powder… and then having to deal with the trip down the mountain.
