Is This The Return of Gorillaz?

Damon Albarn (one half of the creative duo behind Gorillaz) sat down for an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald and while talking up his debut solo album, Everyday Robots, Albarn revealed that his next record could come from one of his most beloved group projects: Gorillaz.

Stating that he is “in the process of reactivating Gorillaz for a 2016 release”, he also told NME back in April that he “could put a Gorillaz record out next week”. If speaking the truth, it will be the first release since 2011′s The Fall, the free album offered to fan club members after 2010′s Plastic Beach.

Following the group’s last tour for Plastic Beach, there were rumours of demise and uncertainty, with talk that Albarn and Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett had a falling out in particular over the animated side of the collaboration. Yet following recent talks, all signs are pointing in the right direction. “There are points in every relationship where they fall out with people that they’re close to and then they reconcile, hopefully,” Albarn said; “and actually, you know the relationship’s probably in a healthier place as a result of that”.

Albarn’s latest solo album, Everyday Robots, has received much acclaim and is nominated for the 2014 Mercury Prize. Landing in Australia this December you can catch him for solo performances in Melbourne (Palais Theatre) and Sydney (Sydney Opera House). Check out the video for it below!
