Who’s to Blame for Avicii’s Failing Health?

Avicii has cancelled all his forthcoming performances including a stop at TomorrowWorld and XS Vegas on the day of his 25th birthday after being rushed back into hospital with stomach based pains further raising the question as to how much the people around him are putting the dollar before his health?

We’ve seen ‘teams’ push pop stars to the limit when a star is mentally vulnerable. Take for example, the late great King of Pop Michael Jackson and his late life dependence on drugs which resulted in the involuntary manslaughter charges of celebrity doctor Conrad Murray. Is Avicii a victim of the same system?

The trouble began back in April when the Swede pulled out of his headline spot at Ultra with the 25 year old receiving emergency surgery to have his gallbladder and appendix removed. To most this would be an obvious sign to hit the pause button and take it easy for a little while, recharge and take back control of your health at least for a few months.

Instead Avicii has continued the same lifestyle either pursued by himself or his team that has further put his life in morbid danger with the young star again heading back to hospital after a recent image surfaced online showing the once full of life producer looking gaunt and tired.

Avicii

Having notched up an impressive $28 million in earnings according to Forbes in the last financial year, it’s obvious to see that Avicii as a brand is an extremely heavy earner (ahem Avicii condoms) and something a lot of people have invested in.

On two occasions Avicii’s manager has been called out for his ownership within the brand with Seth Troxler questioning the 50/50 writing and production credits Ash Pournouri shares with Swede at this years Ibiza Music Summit and again when Deadmau5 laughed at the 20% fee he takes from all performances.

Even the official release from At Night Management, founded/owned by Mr Pournouri points to the expected release and mention of his follow up album next year versus putting everything on halt until Tims health returns;

At Night Management has tabled all touring and promotional activities for Avicii, aka Tim Bergling, until further notice so that he can fully recuperate from lingering health issues related to surgeries that removed his gall bladder and appendix earlier this year. The international superstar, who is the #1 Most Influential Artist Under 25 according to Spotify, is taking a break at home in Stockholm so he can regain his strength and physical well-being before the release of a new album project next year.

On the other hand its fairly easy to point to drugs or alcohol as to possibly also playing a part in the deteriorating health of Avicii considering his proximity to both and the industry/culture that dance music not necessarily needs but playfully flirts with regularly. Again this could be combatted by a strong support group or team around you to ward you away from whats literally killing you.

At the end of the day, even if you don’t like his style of music no one should face such serious health problems doing what they love. We just hope he has the right people around him making the right decisions for a long career.
