This year has seen a flurry of activity from clandestine mastermind SBTRKT, with his phenomenal Transitions EP series followed by the announcement of his second full length album titled ‘Wonder Where We Land’, set for release on the 22nd of September on Young Turks.
The first single ‘New Dorp. New York’, which dropped on the 23rd of July, revealed a unique direction for SBTRKT thanks to the vocal work from Vampire Weekend’s frontman Ezra Koenig. Following this single the thirst has been real for the September release.
In true SBTRKT fashion he has tantalised everyone with a series of sporadic uploading of tracks to his soundcloud and the latest is a beautiful cut titled ‘The Light’ featuring the ever soulful vocals courtesy of Denai Moore, who has also worked with Fantastic Mr. Fox (<3). ‘New Dorp. New York’ polarised opinion from loayl fans, including myself, as it didn’t quite have the same emotive quality that his work so often provides. ‘The Light’ has more than sufficiently restored faith for the upcoming album as the characteristically minimal feel, brooding synth and flickering percussion combined with the emotion driven and powerful vocals result in a simply unforgettable track that has provoked me to press play repeatedly over the past 24 hours.
Can’t wait till tomorrow?
