In the wake of today’s Scottish referendum, we thought we’d take a moment to look at some of our favourite Scottish producers that’ve had an impact on the music scene – so grab yer kilts, down some Guinness and have a listen to these fine musicians:
1. Hudson Mohawke
The trap lord has made no secret of his Glaswegian roots. Considering he’s set to record a politically-charged anti-NSA album, he could have some interesting thoughts on the referendum.
2. Calvin Harris
He may live in the USA now, but Calvin Harris is a proud (and blindingly wealthy) Scotsman. Who knows, maybe he’ll bring out the bagpipes at his upcoming Stereosonic headline sets?
3. Rustie
Rustie is a loud, proud Glasgow boy. The king of grimey, hip-hop infused electronic, his wicked studio album ‘Glass Swords’ was largely recorded at his dad’s house in Glasgow.
4. Mylo
Remember Mylo? The producer who came out of nowhere, released a jaw-droppingly epic album and then… well… I’m not really sure? Well, he too waves the Scottish flag.
5. Boards of Canada
While their name might indicate otherwise, the mysterious two brothers responsible for some of the best down-tempo, ambient tunes out there are in fact from Edinburgh.
6. Grum
While he’s only released one album, this Edinburgh producer has had an explosive career that’s seen him compared to Daft Punk and fellow Scotsman Mylo.
