Rising Australian Talent LOLO BX On Why Rural Festivals Are Ruling

LOLO BX, one of the handful Red Bull ‘Breakthrough Producer of the Year’ nominees in the first ever Stoney Roads awards filled us in on something familiar to their geographical location considering they’re homegrown Bathurst natives!

With an onslaught of rural festival and bush doof announcements including Earthcore, Strawberry Fields, Rainbow Serpent, Village Fair and more being announced in the last week; we quizzed the duo on the popularity of these kinds of events;

SR – Why do you think so many bush doofs and rural festivals like Earthcore, Strawberry Fields, Rainbow Serpent, Village Fair are becoming so popular?

LOLO – It’s like urban sprawl. The big commercial guys have grown huge over the past decade and people are spilling out into the previously less populated areas and exploring new avenues. The reach of music culture is expanding due to increased exposure from the internet and artists that are touring into new areas. The calibre of artists and production at these rural festivals is also matching it with the big guys, and the atmosphere is just more relaxed. It’s like a giant house party.

SR – What does it mean to play in your home town at Village Fairs 40th edition event?

LOLO – My earliest childhood memory of Village Fair is the band 28 Days (“everybody rip it up!”), man they were the best haha. I wasn’t 18 but I listened from outside the fence. Over the years they’ve hosted guys like Machine Gun Fellatio, The Aston Shuffle, Bag Raiders, Van She, Miami Horror, Sneaky Sound System, Yacht Club DJs and hundreds of others. Both Corey and myself have played Village in different acts over the past couple years and it means a lot to be playing at the 40th Anniversary, especially among such a solid line up.

All in all we’d have to agree, with rural festivals and bush doofs putting as much effort into their lineups and production, they tend to match the stakes when it comes where to put your dirty dollars! What do you think? Worth the cash?

You can catch the duo playing at the boutique Village Fair festival on Saturday 20th of September, alongside Golden Features, Will Clarke, LDRU, Thundamentals and more. Full line up here!
