Is Croatia The New Ibizia For Techno Tourists?

Good guy Richie Hawtin has opened up on the changing landscape of dance destinations in which he pondered if Croatia was to be the new Ibiza for #TechnoTourists.

Posting to his official Facebook page was a lengthy digress on his recent summer experiences travelling and performing at places we can only hope to one day enjoy. An interesting point was almost solidifying the ‘rumours’ that Croatia was indeed on the road to becoming the next hot spot for travelling techno-heads:

There’s a lot of talk about whether Croatia is the next #TechnoTourist destination, specially with Ibiza starting its slow course to re-invent itself more as a VIP than a tourist destination. If Friday night was any test of that then perhaps these rumours of Croatia are true.

That test was a reflection on a special moment he shared at Croatia’s Sonus Festival, where he closed the five day event with an extended set, having been granted an extra hour by the local mayor (would this happen anywhere else?) He continues:

I tried my best to bring everything to a close in the most beautiful way. Fuelled by the madness & energy before me (WHAT A CROWD!!!!), we pushed through the extra hour the major of the city had given us and celebrated the final moments of the event with another beautiful Croatian sunrise together!

There’s certainly some weight behind what a prominent techno head like Richie has to say. If he’s seen something so special in Croatia, surely there’s an incredible experience waiting for the rest of us!

There are a huge number of festivals that have set up shop in the Mediterranean crossroads including Hideout, Dimensions, Elephant Elephant, Outlook, Seasplash and even Modular’s own FOR party.
