Acaddamy: From The Golf Course To The Club

Ranked 23 out of the Top 25 producers in Australia for 2013/14, Acaddamy’s flight has seen the Sydney local who you may have discovered on Stoney Roads: Volume Two become a support act for the likes of Vonstroke, Groove Amarda and more quickly through his warm and edible forward thinking house. Playing at BASSIC this Friday night alongside Gladiator and Hydraulix, we caught up to chat about how his career is progressing and discuss what the future of DJing will look like!

SR – What was your first job?

A – My first job was working at the local golf course in Gerringong. It used to get a little boring some mornings to the point where I actually tried to air one of the golf buggies over this grass hill … it did not end too well.

SR – Did jobs prior to DJing have any impact on your career forming as Acaddamy?

A – I wouldn’t really say they had a direct impact but they certainly did help to give me the motivation to work really hard.

SR – How does it feel to be within the top 25 producers in Australia for 2013/14?

A – It’s an amazing feeling! I actually couldn’t believe it when I saw my name come up at the awards night. I’ve been really trying to work hard over the past few months getting my music as tight as possible so it was extremely humbling to see.

SR – How has support from guys like Todd Edwards, Claude Vonstroke, and Groove Armada affected your ability to back-up?

A – It’s been unbelievable! I’ve looked up to these guys ever since I started DJing/producing so to have them supporting my music is extremely humbling and also inspiring. It really makes we want to continue to do better.

SR – What music are your working on at the moment?

A – I literally just finished mixing the new Ministry Of Sound House sessions CD with ma boy Danny T. I am also working on a few new originals with some really cool artists as well as a new free booty. I’ve also just had my remix for The Preatures approved which I’m really happy with.

SR – With Pioneer releasing the DDJ-SX2, what do you see for the future of DJing?

A – I think it’s awesome companies are pushing the boundaries of technology, a lot of artists are getting really experimental with their DJ sets including things like controllers or launch pads. There will always be DJs but over the next few years we will probably see a lot more live shows from artists.
