10 Classic Dance Music Videos Everyone Must See

There was a time when music videos had a bit more worth than todays mega bucks produced stuff. When story lines and some creativity was actually poured into the thought process without the butts, girls and blatant sexual indendo and what came of it was some ‘classic’ music videos.

Although most of these videos only date back a decade or so, and a good portion from the UK they bring on that all too familiar spine tingling feeling of nostalgia as you grin from ear to ear watching some super strange concepts connect together with equally classic tracks.

In an effort to share the knowledge here are some of our favourites for the first ever ’10 Classic Dance music Videos Everyone Must See’

In no particular order…

Darude – Sandstorm (2000)

Classic tune, classic video. Throw in some vests, slow motion shots and wrap arounds and you’ve got a classic!

Daft Punk – Around The World (2007)

Groovy as shit and one most people have seen before. Each group of four people actually represents a different instrument used in Daft Punks ‘Around the World’

Groove Armada – Superstylin (2001)

“There’s a power about rhythm, theres a power about bass that can send out a message that’s just saying to planets all around, to Mars and Nepture and to Pluto. Come to us cause we share a common language, the language of rhythm”

Basement Jaxx – Wheres Your Head At (2001)

Demonic human faced monkeys are stuff made of nightmares only lightened slightly by the fact they can play instruments and spin wax… until they go wild! Reminder, this video/song is 13 years old, eek. Oh yeah, they also have a new album coming out, stream it here.

The Chemical Brothers – Let Forever Be (1999)

This is an older video and a lesser known one from The Chemical Brothers (we know, we know “Hey Boy, Hey Girl” is pretty great as well). Definitely a more rebellious music video and track for its time that still lived by the golden rules of rock and roll and live instruments.

Fatboy Slim – Rockafella Skank (1998)

In a similar ilk to The Chem Bro’s “Let Forever Be” this isn’t your typical dance track, it’s got drums, guitar riffs and twangs but still, it’s chopped, it’s looped and if you hear this on the dancefloor in 2014 you’d still get the hell down.

The Prodigy – Smack My Bitch Up (1997)

The video for The Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up” often left a younger me wondering if this was a typical night out for a pom. After partying with a few in London town I can confirm it certainly is.

Soulwax – E-Talking (2004)

Talk about risky, Belgium troupe Soulwax look to help viewers understand the cacophony of drugs that club goers enjoy on a casual evening with some spot on interpretations (ketamine haha).

Bomfunk MC’s – Freestyler (1999)

“Free freee free free styler, rock the microphone, straight from the top of the dome..” yeah we don’t know the rest of the lyrics either but crazy good music video. Who doesn’t want a remote that can pause, play and rewind time??

Aphex Twin – Windowlicker (2005)

It seemed appropriate on the eve of Aphex Twin’s new album ‘Syro’ to finish this list of with the absolute classic of all classics that is the ten and a half minute epic short film for “Windowlicker” with it’s very own four minute intro!

How’d we do? Ok ok we get it, these aren’t the 10 best videos ever or whatever but 10 that probably speak for a good portion of yesteryears dance generation. Think we missed any? Drop them into the comments below!
