Leon Osborn- “Sleeping Bear Dunes” // #getfamiliar

Okay okay, so the interwebz will be the first to tell you Australian music is all the rage these days.

As the words “Oh, and it’s by a producer from Australia” exits your lips and  finds it’s way into the creases of the resulting smile your friend possess,’ I ask you to pause. Pause because not every indie electronic/trap sounding track from a sub 20 year old Australian is going to blow your mind. Listen carefully, and sort through your friend’s recommendations from the land of Aus and stop at gems such as Leon Osborn. Hailing from Fremantle, WA, and signed to DIE HIGH RECORDS, Osborn is one to #getfamiliar with.

Credentials aside..ah heck, who are we kidding?! His credentials are too good NOT to mention. Osborn has shared stage with the likes of Shlohmo, Giraffage, a Boiler Room set with Ta-Ku and XXYYXX. That is a platinum list of names right there! As well as having support from Sable, Cosmo’s Midnight, Wave Racer, Willow Beats and Elizabeth Rose.

“I listen to what’s ‘going around’ and I usually like it, but then I have a little voice in my head that is declaring that I must try to remain original and retain some integrity in terms of musicality…” – Pilerats

Onto bigger and better, Osborn is currently working on a creative project titled, “Nature Strip,” whereby he releases a new track every Tuesday in July on Souncloud for free. Pretty incredible stuff! So far we’ve seen alluring synth tones, beautiful samples and stunning beats, all dominated by a percussive landscape. It’s the surprises along the way of the tracks – like popping candy in those Cadbury Marvelous Creations – that I urge you to heed my advice above and pause, for his production is sagacious.

Leon Osborn has nothing and everything to prove; his most recent Tuesday tune delivery, “Sleeping Bear Dunes,” makes an example of his dexterity. The track is hopelessly romantic, making him one to get familiar with…fast!!
