Four Tet trials new sound with Rome Fortune

Out of all the amazing percussion-centric experiments Four Tet has been pumping over the last year, we didn’t quite expect him to be dabbling in the world of hip hop quite so brazenly.

But now with the second release with Atlanta rapper Rom Fortune ‘Lights Low’, it’s pretty damn clear that Tetsy can simply do no wrong.

Indeed, following initial collab ‘One Time For’ (entrenched with those blissful infinite sythn-inate sounds), Four Tet displays an even more seamless transgression into the hip hop sphere with ‘Lights Low’.

It really shouldn’t work – but the clean and fast electronica meshes too well with the street-style rap toted by Fortune. For rap sequences which I initially thought seemed suited to accompaniment from a simple drum progression or beatbox – the lyrical stylings and pristine beats go together like fries n’ catsup.

After successful dabbling in femme-blues (check Lana Del Reymix right hur) and fun with Bollywood sounds at this year’s SXSW, we hope to hear more experiments from the gent very soon.

Check out both tracks – and grab some free downloads below! Wew!
