Deep’N’Meaningful – DJ Hanzel Goes Real Deep On BBC Mix

Whilst Dillon Francis has us all itching for his debut full length album ‘Money Sucks, Friends Rule’, a mix that surfaced over the weekend courtesy of Annie Nightingale’s BBC Radio 1 show via Francis’ German alias DJ Hanzel has sent us into a frenzy. True to the character’s tagline, this mix truly goes “One Deeper” with some deep deep house (for those unfamiliar with the character, check out the video below). Despite Hanzel’s vehement protests against the allotted set time – “I wanted six hours, but they only gave me thirty minutes” – he brings the bass hard with some of the “deepest songs you’ve ever heard”.

Francis has cleverly found a way to branch out of his trap/dubstep/electro trimmings and explore another genre whilst retaining his devoted fanbase. Whilst certainly mocking deep house fanatics, DJ Hanzel is proving to be a catalyst for some ignorant electro/EDM fans to gain exposure to more expressive forms dance music.

Not sure about you, but this tidy mix has me questioning whether I’d rather catch a Hanzel or Francis set live, possibly the former now. This is a seriously good mix and one can only hope Hanzel’s influence stretches beyond Instagram videos and onto the album itself.

For those considering whether “zey can go vun deeper”, the answer is yes and “zey will like it”.
