The Whitest Boy Alive Call It Quits, Give Shoutout Brisbane!

German-Norwegian band The Whitest Boy Alive have unexpectedly called it quits in a message to fans that included a shoutout to, of all places, Brisbane!

The sunny side of Australia managed to get a mention in what seems like impressionable artists, labels and places the band have played that included Denmarks biggest music festival Roskilde, songwriter Gonzales and label K7.

The only insight into the split was a cryptic message about how ‘The Rules we made for ourself became a Golden Cage’ – a reference to their 2009 album ‘Rules’ and stand out single “Golden Cage” that received the best god damn eight minute remix ever by Fred Falke.

Full statement below.

Dear Fans. We are no longer composing or playing together as The Whitest Boy Alive. The Rules we made for ourself became a Golden Cage. Thanks for all the support and love we have received during the years. Special mention goes out to: Mexico, Roskilde, Hamburg, Munich, Dusseldorf, Colombia, Geoff McFetridge, WMF, Tape, Atilano Gonzales, Jonas Verwijnen, Mathias Powerline, Midnight Magic, Dena, The New Wine, Rubies, Kakkmaddafakka, Cafe Cairo, Trebbi, Brisbane, Belgrade, Paradiso, Sarajevo, Fred Falke, Morgan Geist, Tokyo, Cat5, Moodymann, John Selway, Jenne Grabowski, Nilgün, Jan Simon, Norman Nitzsche, GigMex, K7, Zebralution, Grooveattack, Smalltown Supersound, fuck you Ola Borgström, Sleeping Star, Aksara, KangnMusic, Marie Staritz, Saap, Markus Ellmer, Arnold and Sascha Steinfurt.
Erlend, Marcin, Sebastian, Daniel.

It’s sad to see a complete end to what was truly an impressionable band that changed the rules to what could be popular music. Thankfully most band members actually kick it in various other outfits with singer/guitarist Erlend Oye representing Kings of Convenience and Dan in Rhodes Piano and Crumar.

We’d better hear a few people playing this out over the weekend!
