Meanwhile, In The Life Of Skrillex

I find it slightly disgruntling just how much Skrillex seems to achieve whilst I spend time sitting on my ass eating cottage cheese. Indeed, I awake from my cheese dreams today to discover a plethora of noteworthy things the Prince of Dub has been doing this week, and I must tell of them all.

After starting the week with the release of a sweet track collab with our girl Anna Lunoe, Skrillzy has been making some noise at Tennessee’s Bonnaroo Festival. Taking on the roll of almighty band leader at the self-curated ‘SuperJam’, Skrillz was joined by ol’ mates Lauryn Hill, Janelle Monáe, The Doors’ Robbie Krieger, Warpaint, Thundercat, Big Gigantic, Damian Marley, Fatman Scoop and Mystikal (of much-beloved tune ‘Shake ya Ass’).

Suffering from a serious case of frothy frothy FOMO, we creamed over the video below. Entering into the gospel of dub, we pondered upon Skrillzy’s effervescent beats, seamlessly fitting into the innumerable splattering’s of cross-genre’d talent across the stage. GAH. Check out the video below:

We can feel and envy the energy from here – especially that of Fatman Scoop – that bro can get TURNT.

Behind it all Skrillzy is pumping the bass drops and dominating with his electronica stylings – with rocking intervals on the axe that solidified his place as one helluva maestro. Adding flavour and spark to the set which mostly saw his guests take on legendary covers, Skrillzy delighted with the unique amalgamations.

Here’s a little excerpt of the setlist:

Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ & James Brown’s “I Feel Good” – Janelle Monáe
Technotronic’s “Pump up the Jam” & David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”- Warpaint
Notorious B.I.G’s “Juicy”, “Work”, “Shabba” & Rocky’s “Wild for the Night”- A$AP Ferg
“Bouncin’ Back (Bumpin’ Me Against the Wall)” and “Shake Ya Ass” – Mystikal
“Break on Through (To the Other Side)” – Robby Kreiger

Skrillzy wrapped up the night with Bob Marley’s “Jumpin'” and The Fugee’s mega-hit ‘Ready or Not’. Fucking sly.

If bringing awesome classic tracks to the masses in insane musical spectacles isn’t your thing, Skrillzy’s week has even more to offer. Snapped in the studio with Ed Sheeran and Usher – the Grammy collecting crew that is Skrillzy and Diplo sat down for a cheeky collab. Indeed, the oddfellows were snapped by the insta pap working on some elusive new tracks.

Wondering what could result from a UK indie pop vocalist, R&B ‘crooner’ Usher, dub monsieur Skrillzy and electronic deviant Diplo? Likewise. Although the unlikely studio lads are keeping mum about the tracks for now, we can assume from the high fives all-round that it’s gonna be a corker.

Feeling like a lazy pleb compared to the Skrilz? Lets be real, you probably are.

But hey, Skrillzy is as Skrillzy does.
