J Dilla’s Mum releases vinyl, cassette and floppy disc set

Mum knows best, it seems.

In the wake of the artists death, mother of the late J Dilla, Maureen ‘Ma Dukes’ Yancy has released a box set of her son’s beats. Titled ‘The King of Beates (Ma Dukes Yancey Collectors Edition Box Set)’.

The box set features an unreleased track from the artist, which can also be streamed below.

Perhaps even more awesomely than the unreleased track however, is the old school format that Yancey is releasing the beats. The box set is comprised of four 10″ vinyls (of Dilla’s ‘Batches’ collection), a cassette containing five unreleased tracks and a booklet of interviews with Dilla’s friends and music scholars.

But what perhaps is the most awesomely classic piece of memorabilia in the set is a 3.5 inch floppy disc (FLOPPY DISC!), which contains an unreleased beat that you can legitimately upload onto a E-mu SP-1200 drum machine. All of this wrapped up in packaging shaped as a drum machine of the same description.

Now that’s a TRUE Deluxe Edition, and an awesome way to remember an incredible artist – fuck that hologram shit.

Onya’ mum.
