Although dating back to 2011, a video attempting to sell a ‘Bode Vocoder’ on ebay has certainly got us smiling with its simple wit and well, badassery that comes with using one!
Youtube uploader intromix who has hopefully by now sold the vintage Bode unit, has created a bit of internet gold with his playful rap as to why a lucky bidder should lay down their hard earned dollars for this such unit and sounding sort of like a Kraftwerk demo.
Some of the killer rap;
“Here’s what it sounds like when we change the keys, creating all sorts of melodies. I change the pitch from high to low, so everybody can enjoy the show. This is a vintage analog machine, it sounds impressive and very clean. No vocoder comes even close, as for sound clarity bode is the most”
Its inventor Harold Bode was a German engineer and pioneer of electronic instruments that actually led to a lot of Robert Moogs designs and architecture. This particular unit was first released in 1977 but his other work first begun in 1937 on the Warbo Formant Organ.
Fact: the robot voice in Boney M’s title track to ‘Nightflight to Venus’ was created using this badboy.
Coming in a close second is a snippet of inventor, creator Harold Bode testing out the exact same model and creating both zappy and melodic sounds.
Lastly a smoking hot disco tune from 1982 via K.I.D with “I Wanna Piece Of The Action” that features of course, the Bode vocoder
