The Grammys Introduce ‘Game Changing’ Rule To Impact On Future Awards

Skrillex Grammys

Peer voted American music awards the Grammys are in the midst of a revolution due to a dramatic rule change that looks to allow all songs to compete equally.

The most significant rule that could heavily impact on specifically the dance music criteria is allowing samples to be used within all songs nominated in all songwriting categories, including the major prize ‘Song of the Year’. Previously samples were only green-lighted for the ‘Best Rap Song’ category as Grammy officials long argued;

“It’s about the art of songwriting, we want to honor newly written songs, not patchworks of previously written songs.”

The new ruling should help the awards evolve forward and could pave the way for producers like Kaytranada, Pretty Lights, or Disclosure to cut in on a piece of the Grammy pie that Skrillex and Zedd have both earned over the years.

With whopping 83 awards se to be spooned out at the 2015 Grammys, we wonder how many of the prized songs awarded will contain samples?
