The Northern Hemisphere festival circuit is heating up and we’re fomo-ing like we’ve never fomo’d before. Foaming at the fomo-ing if you will.
With amazing lineups, technologies and locations plaguing the hundreds of noteworthy events (like the fact that you can crap in a state-of-the-art shitter whilst listening to Skrillex at Glastonbury, or drop in at the Playboy Club on your way to EDC), there’s more than a few reasons for full-blown going-postal envy.
But something becoming increasingly paramount to the festival successes of late are the aesthetics layering the festival grounds. Acting as an LSD substitute for some and an LSD enhancer for others, looks like electronic audiences are increasingly impressed by a fuckload of trippy art in the forest. And hell, who are we to judge (at my last arty festival I spent 30 minutes in a room full of mirrors telling the girl opposite me that she was beautiful… I mean, what?).
So maybe leave your acid at home (or fuck, take two), because it’s time to admire some trippy shapes and perty colours and meet the artists behind our most envied surreal experiences.
Galactivation (USA) – Envision Festival, Costa Rica – Electronic Forest, USA – Others
This shift needs to occur within, deep within our consciousness, so that it can permeate throughout our bodies into our behaviors and life patterns so that the collective may be restored as it once was, in true resonance with the rest of life on this planet and the rest of life in the universe.
As you might be able to tell from the above quote, Galactivation (Carey Thompson) is one spiritual dude. It might be this spirituality which urges the creation of works as utterly bombastic as his.
Although he dabbles in painting and light shows – what blows our freaking mind is the ‘Portals’ he constructs for festivals and other music events.
Portals to what? We assume the other dimension… or a dealer’s jacket. RAGE.

Delta Process (Italy) – Modento Demento Festival, Croatia – Others
Ever felt like the walls were moving around you? Ever felt like there are colours dripping down your face?
Well, you might have schizophrenia – or you might have experienced a light show by Delta Process. Perfect to indulge in whilst listening to some heavy techno or frightening dub – prolly don’t hang out in an instillation if you’re prone to seizures or general fear.
Check them out here.
Inflatabill (USA) – Electric Forest Festival, USA
Inflatabill’s work is a little more serene. The beautiful inflatable works are constructed to resemble artefacts from an ethereal world.
Kind of looking like barnacles or sea creatures on crack – the designs should be enjoyed whilst listening to a strange and glittery electronic music. We can imagine tripping out to Trippy Turtle on these ones (lucky he’s playing at Electric Forest).

Kogain Tribe (Romania) – Momento Demento Festival, Croatia – Freqs of Nature Festival, Germany – SUN Festival, Hungary
The Romanian Kogain Tribe maybe takes the cake for the weirdest instillations we’ve ever seen. It’s amazing creative landscaping – but you won’t see this shit on Better Homes and Gardens anytime soon.
If you ever felt like throwing off your fluffies and crawling into a hall in style of Golem and friends – the Kogians have probably gotcha covered. With all the psytrance at the festivals which the Kogians’ usually decorate – one could easily get psychadelic in these secret gardens.
Looney Moon Deco (Italy) – Boom Festival, Portugal – Modento Demento Festival, Croatia – Other
You’ll probably enjoy Looney’s work most when you’re 10 hours into a festival bender and want to pause for some cool reflection. Like tessellating cloud formations – the sheer and delicate shapes of the giant structures make for some dreamy times.
With a definite tribal influence – we peg these as awesome for the transition to sunrise. The galaxy-esque patterns and colours prepare you for the warm glow of sun after a night of gurning. Steel drum electronica imminent.
Jenkstar –
The self-described ‘cosmonauts’ are a little bit more than your average artistic community. Together they set up small, ecologically fuelled party palaces. With a mix of performers, musicians and the funky kinda ‘freaks’ – the installations are performance art at it’s most groovy.
This is the kinda place you go when you can’t munt no more. You have a glass of wine and a stranger massages your jaw.
Pure poetry.
