EXGF – Idle Hands

Summer is synonymous with escapism. The parties start earlier and go later. Temptation surrounds us from every angle and inevitably becomes impossible to resist. As 3 O’Clock on a Friday afternoon approaches, we glance outside, remove our hands from our computers, and yearn for a cold beer to replace our robotic existence and wash away the empty stress of a summer work day.

That’s the message in Los Angeles-based EXGF’s breakout tune, “Idle Hands.” The high is always right around the corner, and your hands will naturally search and succumb to that high, consciously or sub-consciously.

The question, for me at least, becomes whether or not you can discover something about yourself from these artificial highs and transform them into a more natural high. Does your escapism have a cause? Does it drive you higher, and inspire you to better or transform yourself to strive for more in life?

Or is it just a way to delay the inevitable?

“Idle Hands are the devil’s workshop. When bored we do destructive things, dangerous things, ill-advised things. Drugs, sex, vice; excess is the simplest way to escape. Some get lost and never find their way back, but some find inspiration in seductive new highs and ambitions leaving us to wonder…is overdoing it really such a bad thing?”

We never want the music, the party, or this feeling to escape. Inevitably, the latter two will. But when the sun comes up and the lights come on, can your hands find their way back to the moment and turn your dreams into a reality?
