A leading presence in the Techno world, Alan Fitzpatrick is due to release yet another innovative EP this July on one of the most respected labels in the industry — Cocoon. He’s dabbled with other big-gun Techno imprints like Drumcode as well, and this new release is a testament to his recent sonic evolution, where the dark, heaviness of Techno bleeds into the deep, soulfulness of House.
The title track is more aligned with the Fitzpatrick style we’re used to — pummeling, driving, big room booming, with a touch of that housey human element in the vocal sample, and a powerful crescendo in the last 30 seconds (check the " target="_blank">full version here — a rip from Adam Beyer’s Drumcode Radio 191).
“Memories Of A Time Once Past But Long Forgotten” breathes with a much warmer, softer vibe, perhaps waxing nostalgic as the title suggests. It retains that vigorous underlying rhythm characteristic of a Techno track, but the House influence is undeniable. In the Reprise Strings version, Fitzpatrick takes us even deeper, smoothing out of the rough-n-readiness of the original and paring the sound down to it’s purer, more instrumental form.
