New Zealand Launches Drug Detection App To Help Families Educate Their Kids

The New Zealand Drug Detection Agency, TNZDD for short has tried to get the mums and dads onboard by releasing a mobile friendly app to figure out if your kids are using various drugs including a spate of dangerous legal kinds.

In theory it’s great for the time short parents who don’t have the right schedule to attend school meetings and classes on the topics and instead pushes the onus back on mum and dad back at home. The application looks to open the lines of communication with their kids and educating them on the pro’s and con’s on everything from alcohol to cocaine.

The app offers a direct link  to parents through push notification to warn them of dangerous drugs circulating and bad news for drug dealers offering sub-par gear who might find themselves un-able to sell the bad stuff.

This comes amidst a few drug related stories including the closing of Jakarta’s ‘Berghain on steroids’ club after a police office OD’d, a number hospitalised before an Avicii concert in Toronto, UK festivals banning legal highs and cocaine found in UK tap water – sheesh.

There have also been some positive things happening in fighting the stigma against drugs with exciting new research into Ketamine in the UK, ecstasy trials in Canada and Major Lazer wanting to teach your kids how to take drugs properly.

Although looking quite simple, the app should prove to be a decent segway into educating children in the dangers of drugs and helping break down the barriers between parents and their kids. Watch the news piece here.
