WT 20 Art Crime – Never Look Back EP

WT Records is based in Brooklyn, New York and was founded by William “Speculator” Burnett in 2009. William Burnett has been in and around the NYC dance scene since 2000, playing all types of clubs, underground parties and bars. A tastemaker championing those who deserve to be heard, WT Records mantra is simple – “When did following the rules become more important than doing the right thing?”

Having slipped past my radar for the past 5 years, I finally came across WT 20 Art Crime’s Never Look Back EP and I don’t plan on looking back again. The debut 12″ from Moscow’s enigmatic Art Crime is a beautiful collection of euphoric house, deep house and was created with one intention: to make people dance.

As soon as you hit play, Release washes over your senses, drenching you in piano, happiness and 90s house nostalgia. It’s beautiful, uplifting and hooks you in immediately – I’ve already danced to this in my bedroom at least 5 times. Never Look Back is much more serious, yet the shuffling beat does not fail to reel you in. Art Crime’s style is simple, there are no trills or uneccessary frills but just good dance music that is impossible not to enjoy. The bassline on Running Nowhere is delicious and this track works as a great follow up to Release. In fact, the entire flow of the EP is set out perfectly and ending on Happiness Side Effects pulls this through from beginning to end. The vocal sampling melts perfectly into the hard hitting bass and synths, making it the ideal track for the club.

Art Crime‘s debut 12″ is the ideal record for the club, for the lounge room and for the bedroom, and that he’s managed to achieve this is truly commendable. Buy now on Bandcamp and stream below.
