In a track which is hot out of the Soundcloud oven (3 hours fresh baby), M.I.A puts the ‘mash’ back in smash with a re-imagining of Beyoncé that’ll make the baddygirls wanna get their ya-ya’s out.
Focusing on some serious gal-power themes – M.I.A takes on Bey the only way she knows how – with a shitload of trap and her trademark hard-Brit vocals. Taking a grittier approach to women’s issues – M.I.A tones it back to the struggles of your general working class female.
Concerning those who would are much more likely to seriously take the ‘diva is a female version of a hustler’ route – it’s pretty phresh.
Is the construction of the track that good though? We’re not sure about the progression – ‘Diva’ just kind of pops up at end, tis a bit awkward.
It could be because of this that Béy is less than keen to release the remix herself. We’re guessing you should take a listen before this gets pulled altogether.
And if Bey has any further issues with M.I.A – we imagine she’ll be setting Solange on her. Girl power indeed.
