ID Scanners To Be Introduced To High Risk NSW Bars & Clubs

Next month ID scanners will be introduced to high risk bars and clubs across NSW in a further crackdown on alcohol fuelled violence following Barry O’Farrells recent venue laws joining 1:30am lockouts and a final service of alcohol call at 3:00am.

The scanners were originally intended to roll out in December but will commence through June as they will be added to 35 venues in Kings Cross with Hospitality Minister Troy Grant telling Parliament on Thursday; ”This is a vital tool for the police,’

Punters entering a venue will have their drivers licences or age card scanned with data captured in the form of name, date of birth, address and photograph. If a patron is banned both staff and Police will be alerted and removed from the premises.

Of all the rules this seems the most sensible in punishing the individual instead of the general masses (like these poor munters). We’re unsure of how long the bans last but a good five to ten years would be suffice in combating alcohol fueled violence.
