Afrojack Turns His Back On EDM; “I’m not EDM”

It seems like Afrojack has turned his back on EDM, the craft that brought him to where he is today following an article published on YourEDM about a recent Billboard interview with the Dutch native claiming he isn’t an ‘EDM artist’.

The crux of it was Afrojack, real name Nick van de Wall trying to differentiate his current status of, well whatever he is and that of mainstream EDM artists;

”I’m not EDM, If I wanted to be a successful EDM artist, I wouldn’t put 80 percent of everything back into the show. I would be chilling, demanding 20 hotel rooms, playing for one-and-a-half hours and being miserable as f-. But I don’t want to be an EDM artist – I want to make something that people can be proud of.”

Further adding clarification as to what ‘EDM’ could be about tweeting;

We’re trying to take this all in… let’s see what we’ve got so far according to Afrojack, ‘EDM artists’ play only one and a half hour sets and they DONT play to kids who like ‘candy’ or ‘molly’ and don’t care about PLUR which is pretty much his Ultra Festival set in a nutshell, check it out below but be warned, it’s only an hour and more time spent fist pumping, jumping and mic work than anything.

Sounds to us like someone’s got their wires crossed or cooked or something as that sounds exactly like what EDM has become today.

All of this of course follows having written dance-pop tunes for the likes of David Guetta, Pittbull & Ne-yo as well as Chris Brown, narrating a biopic/documentary about himself, crashing Ferrari’s only an hour after purchasing and generally being a confusing guy on Twitter.

Although we’re not sure we’ll be seeing any chillwave, trap or even a feature on Flumes new album it’ll be interesting to see if he sticks to his guns on this one and what exactly Afrojack means, ever.
