Huge Fees Could Be Set For NSW “Late Night” Venues

Nanny state NSW can’t get a break these days with additional legislation possibly being placed by dads army through State parliament after the 1:30am lock out laws were introduced back in February that looked to curb alcohol fuelled violence and general disorder in clubs, pubs and bars.

Yep, all late-night venues in New South Wales could be set to pay up to $24,500 in annual fees as a result of a new ‘risk-based liquor licensing scheme’ that aims to push venues to cough up more cash on the gamble of what punters decided to do on an evening out. So, who DARES to stay out after 1:30am?!

All venues that operate in the city, Potts Point/Kings Cross would be set to pay $2000 due to their location, while capacity fees could reach up to $8000 for those able to fit in more than 301+ people at a time (we’ve had house parties bigger than this!)

An additional ‘trading risk’ loading of up to $2500 will apply to venues trading between midnight and 1.30am. This charge then rises to a whopping $5000 for venues trading after 1.30am – hint: a whole bunch of them.

If there were ever any stronger indication that the NSW State parliament were keen to shut down clubs and make way for more residential and other development, then this is a glaringly obvious indication so. Rubbish!

The only positive to come from all of this? When ABC hit the streets to find out the effects of the new lock out laws and may have found Australia’s most munted duo.
