Wordlife

Just when you thought boat-partying-rave-season had reached it’s conclusion, you were wrong, cause there’s one more, and there’s little doubt that this one is shaping up to be the best of the summer. The aptly titled Not Another Boat Party hits the high seas this Saturday arvo at 5pm and boasts a stellar lineup featuring wordlife, Basenji, Kilter, Softwar and Parkside DJ’s followed by an after party at Goodgod with A1 Bassline (Dirtybird) hosted by us!

If you wanna catch something a little more distinct, from the likes of wordlife and Basenji, then be sure to snap a ticket to Not Another Boat Party. Predictably, the first release tickets are all gone… but there is still around thirty tix available at an absolute bargain price of $50 as well as few going at the A1 Bassline (Dirtybird) after party.

How is 2014 heading for you guys. What irons are currently in the fire?

Its gonna be a great year hopefully. We’re currently working on a new EP for modular, just finished a remix for Rufus; also this year you can expect collabs with DJ Funk and Anna Lunoe to drop; and our side project IRL with Daniel Merriwether will be hitting the internet soon too.

Do you have any desired collaborations you’re looking to do this year or in the future?

One day we’d love to work with 2Chainz, Beyonce, Kelis, Bone Thugs n Harmony. But on the real were always looking for new people to collab with so if you think you’ve got what it takes hit us on [email protected]

What’s been your favourite moment as Wordlife thus far? (e.g. a release, a live show in particular etc)

I love it everytime someone tells me they play our records. There is sooooo much dance music getting released and there’s no way it can all get played and loved, so we’re just glad to know ours is. Playing our music live is also a mega buzz.

What labels do you guys aspire to release on?

Last year we had a track on one of our all time fave labels, Dance Mania. There are a lot of labels we’d love to release on – Bromance, Marble, Sound Pellegrino, Turbo, Swamp81, Grizzly etc., but perhaps it’s almost time for us to start a label ourselves.

What genres do you see trending in the Australian dance music landscape this year?

Motorik is really growing the techno scene, which is good to see in a market flooded with vanilla deep house and sub par Flume clones. We’d really like to see more producers making original music that transcends existing genres and brings something new to the table there’s definitely not enough of that in Australia at the moment. Also the multi culti stuff that Gus is working on dreems and stuff that is dope and super exciting.

Where is the strangest place you would ideally like to DJ?

A rave in that giant abandoned water pipe in the blue mountains

In 2011 in an interview with FBI you described your music as “futuristic bass music with a mission to bring sex back to the raves of the world.” – How would you describe it now?

An ever evolving middle finger in the face of mediocrity and were still sexy!

My biggest musical influence has been Prince and the Beastie Boys – they have always been statesmen of cool, their music and the music they release of others is always amazing.

My guilty music pleasure isJackmasters Tweak-A-Holic mixes – every one is choc full of amazing guilty pleasures – they so good you may turn yo self in at da cop shop. We also love anything ridiculously ratchet like lil Kim, trina, nicki minaj, rihanna etc.

The first ever CD I bought wasNeneh Cherry’s Buffalo Stance and Smart E’s ‘Sesame Street’.

Get yourself for a killer Saturday night Sydney!!
