Max Cooper – Human [Fields]

FLDSCD001 - Max Cooper - Human COVER

Max Cooper, London’s glitchy king of techno and electronica, had his debut album released on FIELDS a couple of weeks ago, and titled ‘Human’, it comes after a string of releases last year including his beautiful remix of Nils Frahm’s ‘For’, as well as Part 1 and Part 2 of his ‘Fragmented Self’ EPs. It’s no doubt that Max Cooper is one of the most innovative, ambitious and exploratory producers of today’s heart-warming electronica, and the first single off the record – ‘Adrift’ – which features the smoky vocal soundings of Belleruche’s Kathrin deBoer, pushes some of Max’s most delicate percussion and sound design yet – the tune takes his melancholic style to a whole new territory of starkly elegant beauty. ‘Human’ is an album full of tidy, clean and pleasant electronica split between cuts driven by whirring minimal tech house rhythms and sound design exercises, and when he said “it’s more of a personal piece of music for me … [it] is the approach I’ve taken for the whole album,” he wasn’t lying – this is emotional techno at its highest level. Kudos.
