Gaze Ill – Leveraged [Surfase Records]

Normally you expect this sort of sound from a well-established, touring-every-weekend type-a dude. But up-and-coming dubstep producer Gaze Ill – with just 105 likes on his Facebook page – has had his ‘Leveraged’ EP released on Surfase for some of the biggest sounds I’ve heard of late. Getting deep with three originals, the title-track is huge with massive Perverse-esque kicks while veteran 140 mandem RDG takes it higha with screwface synths on his remix. ‘2000 Warriors’ calms it down slightly while still maintaining ultra bass-weight, and ‘Black Lagoon’ haunts throughout with 5am clarity through carefully-placed percussion and eerie vocals.

This is a big wan! Tips to all fans of deep dubstep here – watch out for Gaze Ill. This sounds easily good enough for a release on labels like Tempa, Mala’s DEEP MEDi, J:Kenzo’s Artikal, Demon’s Macabre Unit, Subaltern and more.
