Flamingo – Heavy Steps EP

‘Heavy Steps’ is the debut EP from ambient electronica three-piece Flamingo. The EP consists of 4 original tracks including last year’s single ‘Heart, My’.

Due out April 21st,the EP will be the first release for newcomers Jupiter Clique – a label whose aim is to identify and develop new talent regardless of genre, focusing on quality sounds and high-class production; an aim I feel is well reflected in this inaugural release. Armed with an impressive live show, 2014 is shaping up to be a big year for the dudes from Adelaide. They kicked things off supporting the likes of Bonobo and Classixx and last week announced that they will be playing the Oakbank Groovin The Moo alongside the likes of Disclosure, The Presets, Wave Racer and What So Not – a spot they earned through Triple J Unearthed.

The title track ‘Heavy Steps’ takes you on a journey deep inside a rainforest, it’s a tranquil down-tempo jam, full of airy synths, swung out percussion and hypnotizing vocals. Consistently tight production and well thought out structure across all four tracks gives the release a coherent sound, making for really enjoyable listening beginning to end. With a follow up EP already well and truly underway and remixes for ‘Heavy Steps’ soon to be announced it looks like we’ll be hearing quite a bit more from Flamingo over the next few months.
