Apple Exploring Entering $1.4 billion Streaming Music Game

Look out Spotify, RDIO and others! A new giant could be in town very shortly. Yep, it looks like Apple are readying action stations to adapt to a new era and are reportedly considering launching a music streaming service to counter slowing down download sales in the US of A.

The call has come after after a decline in online album sales by 13% and individual track sales by 11% respectively from March 2013 compared to March 2014 according to Nielsen SoundScan.

According to a major label source who spoke to Billboard, they quoted the transition would be an ‘incredibly complex task’ but you cannot ignore an industry that generated $1.4 billion in subscription, advertising and licensing revenues in the U.S. last year.

If a change in this business model were to occur, this would be detrimental to any labels business model with iTunes accounting for more than 40% of U.S. recorded music. Lucky for the folks in dance music label land, we have the trusty Beatport to fall back on.

So it must be true! When America coughs, the world gets a cold!
