This Is One Killer Soundsystem

There’s a growing awareness amongst DJ’s and party goers regarding the importance of hearing protection when exposed to extreme sound levels. Yet nothing could protect any human from this!

A group of scientists at the European Space Agency have pushed the limits of sound output by producing a system that when fully turnt up is capable of killing a man. The system, aptly entitled the Large European Acoustic Facitility (LEAF), stands 16.4 metres wide, 11 metres wide and 9 metres deep. The ginormous equipment shoots nitrogen that is capable of exceeding 154 decibels, which would be  “like standing close to multiple jets taking off.” Subsequently, the LEAF is embedded in a steel-reinforced concrete walls and can only operate once all the doors are shut. This isn’t a soundsystem – it’s a weapon!

Although the LEAF currently resides in Noordwijk, Netherlands, we’d sure love to give a few Sydney and Aussie joints sound systems a revamp with this beast! It’s the coolest bit of gear we’ve seen since 2 Many DJ’s and James Murphy 50,000 watt ‘Descpacio’ soundsystemThere’s a couple of ripper sound systems doing the rounds at the moment – Civic Underground springs to mind – but there’s a definite need for some improvement around the traps (the Metro fur shur). Alternatively, we wouldn’t mind setting this bad boy up at an Afrojack gig…
