Hardwell – “I’m sick of the same formula that’s going on in EDM right now”

Dutchman, Hardwell has openly admitted that he’s a “a bit sick” of what’s going in EDM at the moment. Quickly popping into A State of Trance 650 in Utrecht while enjoying his month off to work his new album, the producer expressed a keen interest to break out of the mould that popular EDM seems to be stuck.

“Of course I’m going to experience lot of like new, different styles. Y’know I’m a bit sick of the same formula that’s going on in EDM right now so I’m just trying to push boundaries and look at what’s going on in the rest of the world. Even in the hip hop scene and the trance scene and try to combine as much as possible.”

Hardwell joins a growing legion of  star producers (Steve Angello, Aviici and more) that are wanting to move on from the current state of EDM and take things into a new direction before it eats itself altogether. The spectrum of credible production is always in operation – for every Sven Vath you have a Krewella and the underground is always bubbling with the next step, but it’s a positive move that major players within the EDM explosion of recent times are speaking openly about the need for change. Now let’s see who puts their money where their mouth is….
