Wen: the 22-year-old production prodigy with his own unique bass-heavy sound built on a pulsing rhythmic backbone, a nuanced sense of environmental texture and coded vocal samples that interject like pulses. You could call the latter ‘Signals’. As Clash said, “he singularly recall[s] sounds such as grime, dubstep and UK funky without ever really settling into any one niche”, and it’s true: he’s part of Keysound’s 130bpm nu-wave camp that are having dancefloors, speakers and trends set throughout the world.

Wen’s been a crucial player in instrumental grime’s current imaginative ferment, with his ‘Commotion‘ EP last year proving to the scene that he’s a man with an extremely unique sound – one that can’t mistaken to anybody else. And after Blackdown’s Keysound Recordings released Logos’ game-changing ‘Cold Mission‘ late last year, you should be excited for what their next album release has in store.

‘Signals’ will land in all formats March 17, and will feature guest spots from the label boss and Roll Deep baritone Riko. The label promise “heavy signals, weighed down with coded nuance”:

“Power, locale, identity, intent, inequality, sexuality, gender, diversity, energy: all are regular themes of these encoded pirate transmissions…Each signal is a like node in a spacious neural network; bursting into the moment only to swiftly retreat, leaving a spectre hanging, shimmering into the spaces between the spaces.”
