FlyLo Gets Animated For Crazy Project/Brags About Fresh Tunes

Flying Lotus’ repertoire and influence is ever expanding – from jazz infused dance exponent and pioneer, computer game soundtrack curator, rapper, actor and now film score visionary. There’s little the LA based producer can do wrong. His latest venture sees him team up with animator and performer Miwa Matreyek, providing the soundtrack for her shadow puppetry and digital animation production This World Made Itself on March 27. The film, which doubles as a live performance piece, makes its debut at the Flatpack Film Festival in Birmingham and reportedly details the history of the earth. There’s no confirmation whether FlyLo will be joining Matreyek for the performance/screening, but for the sake of Birmingham locals and attendees we hope he makes an appearance.

It’s not the first time Ellison has leant his skills to a film production. Earlier this year feature film Imperial Dreams screened at the Sundance Film Festival, which was coincidentally the directorial debut of Malik Vittal and FlyLo’s debut as soundtrack composer.

Lotus is in town this week with his Layer 3 extravaganza and we’re dying to hear some fresh beats from the maestro off his upcoming fifth LP, which is hopefully going to emerge later this year. Speaking with regards to his new material FlyLo recently stated that “it’s better than all the stuff [he’s] done so far.” He continues, “without any ego I can say I don’t know of anything else that sounds like this record out right now, so I’m really stoked on that more than anything…I can’t compare it to any records of 2014 and ’13.” We’re excited!

For fans of Flying Lotus who aren’t attending his show over the coming week, you’ll have to sit tight in the mean time as we keenly await footage of his work with Matreyek, an official release of Imperial Dreams and his new LP. Until then, check out some crazy dope vision of the animation that FlyLo will be accompanying in Birmingham below and young Aussie producers Sweetland’s nod to the legend on his track Fly Low’that features on the Stoney Roads – Volume Two.
