Congi – Tidal Fragments [Chord Marauders]

I’ve really been enjoying Chord Marauders‘ sound recently, reinforced by the release of Congi‘s new album ‘Tidal Fragments’ that’s finally been released. Melodic dubsteppers rejoice, cause the Nottingham duo have fused together jazz, soul and hip-hop for their debut long-play, with collaborations coming from the likes of Australia’s own B9, Fable, Geode and Jafu: tunes likes ‘Sour Diesel’, ‘Spoken Word’ and ‘Transparent’ nod towards slowed down, atmospheric grooves, fitting neatly around jams ‘Attentuation’, ‘December’, ‘Scales, Steps & Intervals’ and ‘Flow One’ that encapsulate their renowned-for deeper dubstep sound. They’ve not allowed themselves to be constrained by the genre’s trappings – even though dubstep is at the root of their vibe – and so the record is a confident, optimistic and exciting one; one that promises to be influential to not only the label and producers involved but also the wider deep-bass music scene. High recommendations here.
