Coincidentally the line up was revealed the same day as notorious musical grim reaper and “most powerful man in Australian music” AJ Maddah announced the collapse of the Perth leg of Australia’s most iconic festival Big Day Out. Put down to faltering sales and lack of support, the scrapping of Perth’s Big Day Out highlights the paradigm shift occurring in the live music culture- with people moving away from large scale mass crowd pleasers, and opting for more specifically-tailored, niche line ups and experiential based smaller scale festivals.

Are boutique festivals the wave of the future for the Australian live music industry?
