Electronic Music Leads the Way at Brit Awards

In what is becoming a growing trend, Electronic music has been well represented on the shortlist for this years installation of the Brit Awards. Rightfully shunning the likes of One Direction and their pop mates, the 2014 edition of the ceremony will see Disclosure, Rudimental, Naughty Boy and many others lead the fight against commercially viable pulp receive awards for songs we doubt they even wrote.

Fresh off Holy Ship! Disclosure are rightfully nominated for a solid 4 awards; British Album of the Year, British Breakthrough Act, British Single (White Noise), and British Group. With the Surrey Duo a shoe in for Breakthrough Act here’s hoping that they pick up at least another two to recognise their valiant effort in both the British and international dance scene.

Competing against the two young guns for Best British Single are the likes of Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding (I Need Your Love), Rudimental (Waiting All Night) and Naughty Boy (La La La) – all tracks deserving of the nomination.

However it isn’t just the Brit Awards which are progressively beginning to recognise arguably the most popular music scene of recent years. American Music Awards introduced ‘Favourite Electronic Dance Artist’ nominations in 2012 and the likes of the ARIAs and Grammys recognising acts such as Daft Punk, Flume and Cut Copy for their work. Here’s to hoping this trend continues to grow.
