Umidi – The Worlds First Custom DJ Controller

We’re all suckers for a nice looking controller but it seems like there’s only a few quality and decently built ones on the market. What if, you had the chance to design your own one of a kind controller? From the finish to the buttons and everything in between.

Cue stage left, umidi – ‘the worlds first custom DJ controller’ that offers up complete customisation and control over the design with the full functionality that industry standard controllers offer. More succinctly put into words by founders Bartosz Kowalski & Joseph Chehade of Adelaide, Australia;

umidi is a custom DJ controller you design. Using our design interface, you can choose up to 36 components on a 6×6 grid including knobs, faders, encoders, jog wheels, and aluminium push buttons. You can choose the way your components are positioned, colored, and the lighting shapes around each one. To personalize your controller further, you can have a custom image laser etched onto your umidi. You are able to build a completely unique controller.

When talking custom, the guys aren’t kidding around with different brushed surfaces, uploaded and etched images onto the faceplate, placement of high quality aluminium knobs, switches, jog wheels and hopefully drum pads in the not too distant future if they reach a goal of $50K. Even things such as the light designs around each component can be customised.

All design is completed within the official umidi site which is then worked on asap and shipped as quickly as possible turning your dreams into reality and a unique piece of machinery.

They’re currently running a kickstarter with a goal of $20,000 to allow the guys to get rolling with some capital and of course reward those that pledge towards the ideal amount. Pledging starts at $1 for a generous thank you on the site, all the way to  $5,000 that’ll earn you a gold plated and signed umidi as well stickers and an official t-shirt.
