Hayden James, Kilter and co Remix Snakadaktal

Words by Lucy Cole, 18 December 2013

Our favourite snake-cross-pterodactyl gems Snakadaktal have taken to their numerous social networking platforms to announce the release of their third album and live shows to match. Their nation-wide ‘Sleep In The Water’ tour for the debut LP wrapped up a mere three months ago and news of a fresh six track EP so soon afterwards is a huge (and super delightful) surprise! ‘The Sun II’ is expected to drop on January 3, 2014.

Track list:
1. The Sun II
2. East Of Here
3. The Sun II (Just Kiddin Remix)
4. Fall Underneath (Hayden James Remix)
5. Hung On Tight (Fractures Remix)
6. Fall Underneath (Kilter Remix)

Just in case that wasn’t enough reason to be falling-off-your-chair excited, Snakadaktal will be headlining two shows in January; the first in Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on the 17th and the other in Melbourne’s Howler on the 25th. Joining them are Rat & Co, D.D Dumbo and CHEIFS. Kilter is to support at both gigs and is sure to play his up-beat remix of ‘Fall Underneath’ which is the final track on the upcoming EP. Tickets are already on sale through moshtix.

Snakadaktal’s sound has a dreamy pop decadence to it, showcasing a balance of minimalist lulls and sweet lil’ beats, evoking feelings of serendipity and untouchable happiness. Their music combined with the intimate spaces of Oxford Art Factory and Howler sounds very promising; their atmospheres feel suited to Snakadaktal’s finesse.

The Melbourne-based group signed with Humming Records one month ago, joining the likes of Glitches and Yes Cadets. The boutique German label is “aiming at conquering the world”, and thus it makes total sense that ‘Sleep In The Water’ is set to be released in Switzerland, Austria, The Netherlands, Germany, South Korea and Japan early in the new year.

Since their formation in 2009, Snakadaktal’s popularity has boomed. Winning Triple J’s ‘Unearthed High’ competition in 2011 surely played a big part in getting their name out into the world and fuelled the release of their self-titled EP that same year. Throughout 2012, Snakadaktal travelled the country with their ‘The Dance Bear Tour’ and ventured to the UK for half a dozen shows. Several singles, an LP and soon a second EP later… the future looks very bright for the five young Australian’s whose careers are only just beginning.
