Global BLACKOUT sheds light on EDM nights out

In pursuit of that common feeling that unites the individual partygoer with the global collective, our friends at THUMP have made a video titled ‘BLACKOUT’ which aims to capture the essence of the 21st century party by following partiers around the world through their trajectories of a single night.

Every generation thinks they invented the party, that they’re the intrepid explorers who push the limits of celebration. But when it comes to partying in the generation X, it’s a bit harder to define than the love-ins or discos of old. Director Dori Oskowitz does just this – and manages to get beyond the surface of the constantly media pegged ‘degenerate youths’ label.

From pre-party to post-party, shots to sunrise, Paris to Chile, the video is beautifully shot and deserves serious kudos. Featuring a few familiar faces, and more than a few gems from that sexy man Richie Hawtin, such as this honey smidge;

For this music to survive, or to continue growing, it has to go beyond nightclubs and being played from midnight to 6am. That’s the core, but it has to be more than that.

We do wonder, however, what the Australian input could have been. Although a down under component of the video may have seen some goon-bag-off-a-washing-line action, we’re semi disappointed that the THUMP guys didn’t get a chance to see the Aussie’s partying down.

Do you think the video missed out any vital parts of party lifestyles? Let us know.
