It's been a long time coming but Erol Alkan, the part Turkish, part Cyrpiat and London-based DJ and producer, has released his debut solo work out on his own imprint Phantasy Sound, created in 2007. Erol is responsible for a plethora of timeless electronic-inspired and often extended dub remixes with his work alongside renowned outfits Metronomy, Hot Chip and Bloc Party as well as an number of remixes under his Beyond the Wizards Sleeve alias with the likes of Peter Bjorn and John, Goldfrapp and Simian Mobile Disco all copping  his unique interpretations. These remixes earned him plaudits around the world and this sublime electro, deep house and techno inspired three track EP further reiterates his quality and proves, as if there was any doubt, that he can create original solo work of a superior class.

The 'Illumination' EP, released digitally and on limited edition vinyl today, is a real enthralling piece of work with each track grabbing your attention with hard hitting synths and authentic basslines, perfectly exemplified at the 2:30 mark of 'Check Out Your Mind'. It's extremely difficult to pick a favourite as all three tunes are early contenders for tracks of the month, but I have to say that 'A Hold On Love' is one to be truly admired, combining those late night deep-house vibes with that signature synth work evident throughout as it then progresses into a blend of house and electro vibes. One of my favourite releases in recent times, be sure to grab a piece straight from Phantasy Sound.
