Waka Flocka Flame Talks EDM

There’s little doubt that trap has gained a huge amount of momentum, forging a collision between the worlds of rave and rap in a way that’s sparked a crazy new movement in music. It’s been smoothly embraced by cool dudes like TNGHT, Flostradamus and Baauer, and back in April we heard Waka Floka flaaaaaaame jumped on the band wagon with plans to work with Skrillex and Diplo  in an EDM based album.

When asked to comment on the belief that trap music influenced by EDM is a form of cultural appropriation, Big Homie Flock noted:

“I really don’t give a damn. I’m a just a man in the middle looking at the conflicts, you feel me? I’m just makin’ music, enjoying time, loving the party…I’m just doin’ me, I don’t have a specific style man, I’m just doin’ me.

We got some good feels about his whole hip hop meets dance music in some sort of deliciously fuzzy tingle time, and apparently so does Waka Flocka, who isn’t hiding the fact that he’s just a newbie in the big bad world of dance music.

Well, I’ve really, always been on it. I’ve always been in that lifestyle, I just never had that direction or how to get there. It’s just now, I have that and it’s the world I want to be in.  I’m just now a rookie into it, and I’m learning and loving a lot.

If you’ve checked out Borgore’s EP ‘Wild Out‘ featuring Wacky fo fo, you’ll maybe agree that it’s not super great, but we can’t deny this whole thing is preeeeeettty intriguing, and while no one really knows what to expect from Flocka’s new album Psychotics, we do know it will be an EDM version of the rapper’s highly anticipated third album Flockavelli 2, due out early next year.

A lot of people resent the merging of these two awesome genres, while others feel it makes sense for them to be together. Could hip hop spell the end for EDM? Or is it cool that both genres are evolving and moving forward in a way that blurs lines between the two?
