Ultimate Troll – Sony Recycle’s Daft Punk ‘Unboxing’ advert with Playstation 4

A new yet oddly familiar advert for Sony’s Playstation 4 console has seemed to take on an almost mirror image to that of the Daft Punk ‘Random Access memories’ Unboxed video released earlier this year.

This obscure case of deja vu displays- once again- a futuristic ‘spaceship’ setting, with what is literally a perfect play-by-play from the original Daft Punk video.

-Mysterious, dark and narrow hallway: Check!
-A big shiny box positioned at the end of the hallway: Check!
-A random punter wearing a glove (much like Daft Punk in the original video) unpacking this box: Check

I won’t keep rambling on, the rest you can watch for yourself. Now before we all scream ‘rip-off’; we must take into account Sony own Columbia records, which ‘Random Access Memories’ was released on in May, so I guess what we’re dealing with is simply advertisement recycling.

Isn’t it strange a hot-shot company such as Sony couldn’t toss up a new idea without spinning off an old one? Perhaps the guys at Sony are up too something here, they surely didn’t expect no one to realise this is a blatant replica right? Maybe they enjoy a bit of trolling knowing the PS4 is going to wipe the floor with xBox?

Regardless, it is still a pretty risky video, that without proper reasons why will ‘upset’ a lot of gamers into thinking they’ve been lazy. Just wait a week until Sony comes clean!
