Three Strikes and You’re Out – Azari & III Call It Quits

Canadian four-piece Azari & III have sadly called it a day. Overnight, band member Alphonse Alixander Lanza III took to Facebook to announce the band’s expiration. Ironically one of the band’s last tracks that dropped at the start of November was entitled Extinction Event. Lanza III wrote;

“Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, the art project known as AZARI & III has done its work, run its course and is, for all intents and purposes, a momentary blip in time, now forever imprinted on the Universe. Our recent EP entitled Extinction Event was just that, an extinguishing of the flame and a bird into the fire of blissful, eternal oblivion. It was heaven, it was hell, and I wouldn’t take it back if I could. Now comes the Aeon of the Phoenix, which rises from the flames impervious. Long live the new flesh.”

No official post has been made to the band’s Facebook – but this seems pretty definitive.

Despite the track title and its somewhat sombre overtones, we doubt it crossed anyones minds that they’d be calling it quits so suddenly. We were lead to believe that they’d be back in action with a full-length feature in no time – they’ve had a string of international tour dates this year, released a ripper remix album and just dropped a fresh EP (which featured in our November best album’s and EP’s). Alas.

We are deeply saddened by this news. ‘Reckless With Your Love’, ‘Hungry For The Power’ and ‘Manic’ are timeless disco classics that will undoubtedly continue to keep late night dance floors buzzing for many years.
